Canzonetta is an early music ensemble based at Pärnu School of Arts, whose repertoire is closely connected with historical musical heritage and an authentic period sound world.
The ensemble mainly performs early music, bringing audiences melodies and moods from different eras. Their performances create a festive and historical atmosphere, making them well suited to themed events, Hanseatic Days and cultural programmes.
Canzonetta regularly performs at events in its home town of Pärnu. For example, in 2025 the ensemble appeared at the opening of Pärnu Hanseatic Days on the Water Stage in Vallikäär, helping to create a dignified and period-inspired introduction to the event.
The ensemble’s name comes from Italian. As a musical term, canzonetta, meaning “little song”, refers to a light secular song form that originated in Italy in the late 16th century and the first half of the 17th century.
Canzonetta brings together performances by young musicians, the tradition of early music and a historical atmosphere, offering audiences a beautiful and authentic period music experience.
